Up next in my USports recruiting analysis is the University of Waterloo, where head coach Chris Bertoia has been putting together a team of the future. A reminder: I can only speak to prospects I have seen or have tape on. That being said, here are the Warriors top 5 2017 recruits.
1. Gordon Lam, REC, 5’11”, 180 lbs, Kitchener, ON (RICC)
Gordon Lam is the real deal. Fantastic hands and surprisingly elusive. Absolutely dominated the US national team in Texas. This is a name to watch going forward.
2. Tyrell Ford, DB, 5’11”, 170 lbs, Niagara Falls, ON (A.N. Myers)
Lightning fast and an absolute ball hawk. Has an innate ability to locate the football, high point it and break up the play. Will create turnovers in bunches at the next level.
3. Justin Henderson, QB, 6’2”, 215 lbs, Waterloo, ON (St. David)
It was tough to find tape on Henderson but I’m glad I took the time to go through local news highlights. I love this kid. Stands tall in the pocket and delivers the ball with crazy accuracy and placement for a young player. A great runner but stays in the pocket and takes hits to make top calibre throws. He could be a starter, and a star in the OUA, sooner rather than later.
4. Tre Ford, QB, 5’11”, 165 lbs, Niagara Falls, ON (A.N. Myers)
A natural athlete who is elusive and a true dual threat. Has a strong arm but needs to improve his footwork. May not be a true QB and I can see him converted to receiver or defensive back with success.
5. Riley Vandehogen, OT, 6’7”, 340 lbs, Waterloo, ON (St. David)
A big man with sky high potential. Will need to drop weight and improve his foot speed at the next level. Has a mouldable frame and heavy hands which could turn him into a premier tackle in the OUA.
